Varian deploys global documentation strategy

Varian Medical Systems has implemented a component content management system (CCMS) to streamline documentation processes, foster collaboration and decrease localization and publishing costs.

The company, which employs 6,000 people worldwide, has deployed DITA CMS from IXIASOFT for the creation, management, localization and multichannel delivery of all of its documentation. DITA CMS is a content management solution designed to manage the DITA documentation process. The DITA (Darwin Information Typing Architecture) standard is an XML-based, topic-oriented architecture for authoring, producing and delivering technical information.

Kevin O’Reilly, senior director of customer support services marketing and global publications at Varian, says, “We needed a documentation system that would allow us to deliver critical product content faster and improve customer experience, all while conforming with strict medical device regulations. With the DITA CMS in place, we can rely on a CCMS solution that not only meets requirements today, but also we see continuously evolving.”

Varian Medical Systems manufactures medical devices and software for treating cancer and other medical conditions with radiotherapy, radiosurgery, proton therapy and brachytherapy.
