Support for technical documentation

Isilon Systems, a provider of clustered storage systems, has chosen a solution from IxiaSoft to support and streamline its DITA-based documentation process. DITA stands for Darwin Information Typing Architecture, an XML-based architecture, introduced by IBM, for authoring, producing and publishing technical information.

Isilon selected IxiaSoft 's DITA CMS Framework for its native DITA support, features and flexibility, according to a recent press release from IxiaSoft. The solution is based on TEXTML Server, IxiaSoft's XML repository, and fully leverages the XML structure of all content--including DITA topics, maps and images—stored and managed by the application. Features include an XML editor, a WYSIWG map editor, advanced search, workflow support, version control, link management, binary file manipulation and multiformat publishing capabilities.

"As Isilon continues to grow, we are focused on improving technical documentation efficiency to deliver on-demand and personalized information to our partners and customers," says Steve Anderson, technical publications manager at Isilon. "The IxiaSoft DITA CMS Framework ... will enable us to achieve our business objectives quickly."

Isilon also had set several goals that led it to consider DITA and to implement a content management system. Those included improving team productivity; enhancing content quality, consistency and reuse; decreasing time-to-market and automating various manual processes.

Deployment of a single-source content management solution had become important to Isilon as its product lines increased and its market expanded globally.
