Biopharmaceutical company AstraZeneca wanted an enterprise search platform to handle its R&D organization globally. After a competition to determine which solution would work best for the company, AstraZeneca chose Sinequa for its real-time big data search and analytics functionality.

The pharmaceutical company was impressed by a number of features including Sinequa’s semantic analysis and text mining capabilities, its tunable relevance algorithms and many out-of-the-box connectors to heterogeneous data sources, according to Sinequa.

Nick Brown, associate director, R&D information at AstraZeneca, says, “We have found a partner with Sinequa that brings a next-generation search platform and will innovate closely with us. In only a few months, we have indexed tens of millions of documents and delivered cutting-edge business applications to our users. We are excited to see what the future of big data analytics is together.”

At first AstraZeneca will use Sinequa for R&D so its scientists can find relevant information concerning drugs, diseases and genes, as well as a variety of other scientific concepts. About 200 million internal and external documents will be indexed and a variety of mobile business applications will be built on top of that content.

Xavier Pornain, VP of sales and alliances of Sinequa, says, “This is a major deal and it confirms--in our view--that there is a new market for search and analytics in the big data era, with ever more powerful use cases that have moved to the core of the business of user organizations.”
