BPM finds a home

A company that specializes in acquiring and managing apartment communities has chosen a business process management (BPM) solution to automate its policies and procedures. Waterton Residential, with 15,000 apartment homes in 12 states, is using Workflow Director and Process Director from BP Logix.

John Vilim, CTO with Waterton, recognized that the company needed to develop a policy and procedures system; more clearly define its process for “due-diligence walk-throughs,” which are on-site inspections of possible acquisitions; and streamline and update its new hire requisition process.

Vilim sought a BPM tool that would meet not only the company’s IT requirements, but also its business considerations. “We had to solve a business problem, use reasonably standard technology, be cost-effective and find tools that fit into our technology roadmap,” he explains. Waterton’s requirements included a browser-based platform; an effective dashboard; and the flexibility to enhance capabilities with Web services, access any SQL data it needed, and automate and manage forms.

Vilim says, “We recognized early on that Workflow Director would help us automate most of our business processes ... When we heard about Process Director, it just clicked: If you have a project you need to automate and it doesn’t fit into a workflow, that’s a project for Process Director.”
