Certifiably KM

The George Washington University now offers graduate certification in knowledge and information management, a program developed in partnership with the university's School of Business and School of Engineering and Applied Science. The program is designed to prepare students to harness a firm's strategic assets so their commercial potential can be realized and protected. The four-course, 12-credit program integrates management and engineering disciplines and will be taught by distinguished faculty from GW's business and engineering schools, as well as industry practitioners and government executives. It will prepare students to form organizational structures and systems--i.e. knowledge capture systems, communities of practice and online knowledge repositories--that facilitate knowledge management and encourage innovative solutions to difficult problems, which can be introduced to the market and economically implemented. Students will be admitted to the program in groups of about 30 and will study together throughout all four courses. This approach will provide opportunities for teamwork, networking and class solidarity. Students will enroll in one course per semester and will complete the entire certificate program in four semesters. The evening courses will be offered at GW's Foggy Bottom Campus, and the certificate program graduates can apply their credits to a GW Master of Business Administration degree or the Master of Science in knowledge management degree.
